What is ReFocus?.
ReFocus is communications training for the screen industries. It is designed to help anyone working in the screen sector, in any department, make their working practice more inclusive of learning disabled and/or autistic people. The one-day course is certified by the CPD Certification Service and, thanks to Creative Wales, is available at various discounted or free rates until end of March 2024. “I thoroughly enjoyed the ReFocus course, an interactive opportunity to have open discussions about difficult topics, and how we can be doing more to support inclusivity in the Industry.” Lowri Farr, Boom Cymru
What does it involve?.
A relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, open and constructive discussion exercises and activities, forum theatre and one-to-one role play with Hijinx actors. Lunch and refreshments are also provided. “The variety in activities, including the forum theatre and role-play, really added a dimension I’ve never experienced in any training session before. Why ReFocus?.
The facts are conclusive: the screen industries are falling way behind when representing and including people with learning disabilities and/or autism (Creative Diversity Network’s Diamond Report – the 5th Cut). ReFocus has been set up to help remedy this, by giving people in the industry confidence to work more inclusively.
