Beyond Words: Online Training.
We’re preparing to launch a new online interactive training programme designed to enhance communication and accessibility across the events sector.
With thanks to funding from Welsh Government through Event Wales and building on the success of past in-person sessions, we have been collaborating with Learning Disability Wales and Gig Buddies Cymru to develop an online training programme that aims to improve how event staff interact with people with learning disabilities and/or autism, creating more inclusive and welcoming experiences at events across Wales and beyond.
The course has been built around a series of interactive, drama-based scenarios that closely reflect the experiential nature of our in-person training sessions. We have aimed to recreate, as closely as possible, the experience of learning alongside our actors in a training environment.
Throughout the course, you will find:
- Short, scenario-based films
- Interactive activities and quizzes
- Opportunities for reflection and note-taking
- Downloadable resources and PDF guides
- Practical tools to support your learning
We would like to thank Event Wales for commissioning and supporting this project. Please get in touch below to find out more!
Beyond Words: In-Person Training.
Beyond Words started as in-person training through initial funding from Welsh Government via Event Wales. This funding enabled us to deliver six in-person training sessions, reaching around 70 participants from different events venues and organisations across Wales.
The full-day sessions, which featured lived-experience-led role-play scenarios, were co-delivered by actors with lived experience of learning disability and/or autism, alongside experienced training facilitators. Feedback showed that the sessions helped to reshape participants’ thinking around the barriers that exist within events delivery and prompted them to reflect on their own practices. The relevance of the scenarios was a consistent feature of what participants found most enjoyable and useful about the sessions.

The Beyond Words training was so impactful, a good balance of healthy discussion, alongside group activities and the Hijinx actors performing forum theatre. It allowed us to consider how even making the smallest changes will help to make our events more accessible.
