Blind and Partially Sighted Audiences

Audio description will be available for some free and ticketed performances. 

Ticketed events: 

The following ticketed events will have Audio Description and audio translation:

  • The Day the Man Stepped on the Moon (Friday 3 July) will have Audio Description by Alastair Sill along with audio translation by Sami Dunn
  • Down (Saturday 4 July) will have Audio Description and audio translation by Alastair Sill

The flag indicating Audio Description for the street theatre performances will be blue with the Unity Festival logo and an Audio Description icon on it. It will be attached to the backpack the audio describer is wearing.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Audiences

BSL interpretation and Captions will be available for some free and ticketed performances.

Ticketed events:

The following performances will have BSL interpretation:

  • Unity Festival: Off-Script (Comedy night – Tuesday 30 June) will be BSL interpreted by Stephen Brattan-Wilson
  • Unity Festival’s Grand Opening (Cabaret night – Wednesday 1 July) will be BSL interpreted by Stephen Brattan-Wilson and Julie Doyle
  • Musical Sharing (Work in Progress) will be BSL interpreted by Claire Anderson

The following performances will have Captions:

  • Baby Bumps (Thursday 2 July)
  • The Day the Man Stepped on the Moon (Friday 3 July)
  • Down (Saturday 4 July)

Stages at Unity Festival in Cardiff.

In Cardiff, there will be 4 stages hosting the free street theatre, dance and circus programme. These are:

  1. Llwyfan Porffor Stage A purple circle within which is a black illustrated Unity Festival character with a pink beak, flag hat, skirt and cowboy boots.
  2. Llwyfan Gwyrdd Stage A green circle within which is a black illustrated Unity Festival character holding an umbrella in fishnet tights and heels.
  3. Llwyfan Glas Stage A blue circle within which is a pink illustrated Unity Festival character with a blue beak, flag hat and long narrow legs.
  4. Llwyfan Melyn Stage A yellow circle within which is a pink illustrated Unity Festival character with three legs who is juggling three balls.

They are named after colours (in Welsh) and all have their own unique Unity Festival character icon. Bigger versions of the stage icons can be found below.

Llwyfan Porffor Stage is in front of the Wales Millennium Centre, under the canopy, and has a what3words location of ///librarian.bets.gravy

Llwyfan Gwyrdd Stage is inside the Wales Millennium Centre, in the Glanfa, and has a what3words location of ///kicks.dragon.ocean

Llwyfan Glas Stage is in front of the Senedd, and has a what3words location of ///eaten.rock.inspector

Unity Festival will be held at the following venues this year: Wales Millennium Centre and Chapter in Cardiff, Theatr Clwyd in Mold, and Ffwrnes in Llanelli. Here are some useful links to the venues and travel information.
