The Audience

About the show.

They’re coming. Chairs in hand. A crowd gathers. They move as one, then not at all. Chairs snap open. Pathways collide. The impossible starts to take shape. What begins as something familiar becomes something stranger, more playful, more dangerous. Finding the show in the every day, The Audience is a bold exploration of togetherness, disruption, and the delicate balance between control and collapse, building towards a breathtaking final image that shouldn’t stand…but somehow does.

Programming Information.

Perfect for major festivals, civic events, and high-impact public performances. Can be performed indoors or outdoors. Duration approx 30 minutes. The Audience is a creative residency which builds to a performance for up to 30 performers, including local learning disabled and non learning disabled artists, over 4 days of workshops/rehearsals, delivering scale, impact, and joyful community engagement. More detailed information can be found below.

Tech Requirements.

Preferably an 8m x 8m level raised stage. However, can be performed on ground as long as floor is level. If indoors minimum height of 4m. Full range stereo PA with 2 x XLR or Jack input is required. For rehearsals we will need a space large enough for up to 30 performers with a minimum height of 3m. Dressing rooms required suitable for size of cast.

Programming Information Continued.

This is a scalable semi-professional performance offer, as such cast and crew size will vary from show to show, depending on the space and number of potential participants. Hijinx will travel with a team of 10, including performers, director, crew and artist support.

Through a partnership with the booker and local community organisations, we will work with up to 25 local artists and/or participants, building a show with maximum of 30 performers.

This offers a meaningful exchange opportunity for local artists, giving in an insight into how we co-create performance with our learning disabled and/or autistic artists, an experience which then leaves a lasting legacy.

For audiences of up to 500, on three sides of stage.

Each performer will need a black FRÖSVI fold out chair, available worldwide from IKEA: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/froesvi-folding-chair-black-10534318/#content

If performing in the UK or Europe we can supply our own chairs if it is more economical to do so. All costumes are sourced locally.
