Follow Hansel’s breadcrumbs to the Wales Millennium Centre!

6th December 7pm, 7th December 7pm (audio description) and 8th December 3pm & 7pm.

This Christmas join Hijinx’s community theatre group, Odyssey, as they follow Hansel and Gedeon on their adventure through the Grimms’ Wood. Showing in the Weston Studio of the Wales Millennium Centre from the 6th – 8th Dec at 7pm and 8th Dec at 3pm, with BSL interpretation for all performances and Audio Description on the 7th December.

Hansel, Gedeon and the Grimms’ Wood
Written by Llinos Mai, Hansel, Gedeon and the Grimms’ Wood features a large cast of disabled and non-disabled performers from Odyssey, pupils from Woodlands High School, and haunting, original music by David Roche, composer in residence.

This is the third year Hijinx Odyssey have partnered with Ty Cerdd to facilitate an opportunity for a composer to gain valuable theatre score experience, but the first to be funded through their CoDI programme.

As well as the four exciting performances there will also be an exhibition in the Wales Millennium Centre from 3rd December to 7th January, where visitors can explore the mysterious Grimms’ Wood even further, but be careful you don’t get lost! The exhibition will showcase the puppet design process by students from the University of South Wales Creative and Therapeutic Arts degree course.

Plus we’ve one more treat for you - arrive early before each show to be welcomed by Telemachus, Hijinx’s community theatre group for disabled and non-disabled 16-24 year olds.

About Hijinx Odyssey
Hijinx Odyssey is an inclusive community group for adults who share a passion for performance, and is just one facet of the Participation work from the Welsh theatre company Hijinx. The magic of Odyssey, and what makes it a rare find, is that it brings together people with and without disabilities from very different backgrounds to explore, play, and journey together into the world of make believe.

Nia Ramage, a long standing member of the group, describes Odyssey as “like having an extended family,” she continues, “There's an amazing sense of unity between all the members of Odyssey as well as Hijinx staff and volunteers and we pride ourselves on working together as a team at all times. We continuously help each other out whether it's during our Monday night sessions, weekend rehearsals or during our actual performances.”

Making Hansel, Gedeon and the Grimms’ Wood possible
This production is made possible by revenue funding from Arts Council Wales, the support of Cardiff Council’s Cultural Projects Scheme and by the members of the group who have come together over the past year to fundraise towards putting on a Christmas production in the Weston Studio at Wales Millennium Centre.

Hansel, Gedeon and the Grimms’ Wood is at the Weston Studio, Wales Millennium Centre from the 6th – 8th Dec at 7pm and 8th Dec at 3pm, with BSL interpretation for all performances and Audio Description on the 7th December. Tickets are £9 for adults and £6 for under 16s and are available to book in person from Wales Millennium Centre ticket office, over the telephone on 029 20 636464, or online at
