Today sees the launch of Hijinx and Learning Disability Wales’s short film about Forum Theatre collaborations.
Forum Theatre is a type of interactive performance developed in Brazil by Augusto Boal where the audience is invited to stop, rewind and redirect the action in order to discover different outcomes.
Hijinx and Learning Disability Wales collaborations
Hijinx has worked with Learning Disability Wales, contributing Forum Theatre performances at a number of conferences and consultation events. In planning Hijinx’s involvement in Learning Disability Wales’s 2015 conference, both organisations saw a great opportunity to make a short film highlighting how effective and empowering a tool Forum Theatre can be, helping individuals with ideas and tools to solve issues in their own lives.
Always including fully trained casts with and without learning disabilities, Hijinx Forum Theatre performances are effective at highlighting and creating discussion around a particular issue related to the learning disabled community. The performance featured in the film is with an integrated cast that included trained actors from the Hijinx Academy South 1 in Cardiff.
To celebrate the launch of this film Hijinx asked Simon Rose from Learning Disability Wales to write a guest blog post about the process of developing the film and how Learning Disability Wales’s conferences and events benefit from these performances,
“Inviting Hijinx to facilitate forum theatre has been a key part of making our events accessible and productive over recent years. Our guests love them and get stuck into exploring issues and solutions using forum theatre with enthusiasm”.
