Snoutology for Beginners at the Edinburgh Festival

Hijinx Theatre presents Snoutology for Beginners

Inclusive theatre makers, Hijinx Theatre, bring barking mad dog show to the former Veterinary College, Summerhall in Edinburgh

Bounding into the Demonstration Room at Summerhall this August are a couple of Cardiff’s cleverest canines. Professor White Fang and Dr Gary, both accomplished dogs in their own right, present their acclaimed training seminar Snoutology for Beginners for humans who have lost their senses. With the help of quirky animation, ground-breaking 4D visual aids and 100 pairs of reusable dog ears, the canine academics attempt to reconnect humans to their most reliable communication channel - their ‘snout’!

“Brilliantly bonkers. The most fun I’ve had in a theatre for years”
Neil Reading, Arena Theatre, Wolverhampton

Like all of Hijinx’s work, Snoutology is performed by an inclusive professional cast featuring Lindsay Foster, an actor with Asperger’s, alongside actor Jimmy Whiteaker. Lindsay has been trained through the Hijinx Academy, the only course in Wales and one of a handful in the UK, which trains actors with learning disabilities to perform at a professional level.

“The quality and breadth of the training provided by the Academy is second to none.”
Arts Council of Wales

Small in number but vast in ambition, Hijinx Theatre – based in Cardiff’s Wales Millennium Centre – has toured small scale theatre to the UK and Europe for 30 years. Over the last decade the company has pioneered inclusive arts in Wales and now shares their inclusive practice with leading UK theatre companies such as Frantic Assembly, Complicite, Spymonkey, Okham’s Razor and most recently Punchdrunk’s Enrichment team.

At Hijinx I see the ability in disability. Petra Massey, Spymonkey
There should be more companies like Hijinx! Matthew Blake, Punchdrunk Enrichment

Snoutology for Beginners is a raucous interactive show that will have Edinburgh’s late night punters singing, swearing allegiance and invading each other’s personal space. What more could you want?
A free drink? Yes there’s that too!

Snoutology for Beginners has been developed and comes to Edinburgh with support from Arts Council of Wales.
