Inspired by the story of the writing of Silent Night by Joseph Mohr and Franz Gruber, Odyssey has created their very own Christmas tale. A long time ago, high in the Austrian Alps, Father Joseph sits down to play the organ but not a note or a whisper is heard, just a strange rustling and then a plague of mice rush out causing havoc. Outside, snow is falling furiously and when the river finally floods the surrounding area, the villagers rush to the church for sanctuary. The village is cut off so there will be no roving actors to perform the Nativity and no music for the carols. In true Odyssey style and with the talents of music students from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and children from Meadowbank Special School, disaster will turn to triumph as the villagers turn a long night into a festive celebration.
