Past Outreach Workshops
Outreach Has Begun!

Hijinx Theatre have recently expanded their drama provision for community groups including adults with a learning disability and/ or carer groups throughout South Wales.
So far workshops for adults with a learning disability have taken place with a variety of groups including a drama taster with a day centre in Porthcawl and a workshop focussing on team building and communication skills for a Service User's Committee in Newport.
Workshops for carers are another area to the workshop strand where the focus is not so much on communication skills but on giving unpaid carers a day off from caring to have fun and to meet other people in the same predicament. These workshops have taken place with a variety of carer organisations including a workshop for Merthyr Hafal and Rhondda Cynon Taff Carer's support project. Hijinx have been invited back to run workshops again for these groups in Autumn.
Other workshops have taken place with children on a playscheme for Barnardos and as a training day for adult volunteers in Torfaen looking at ways that drama can be used in a community setting. Plans are also under way for many other exciting projects including using role play for adults with a learning disability at the next All Wales People First conference. So watch this space!
Outreach Officer, Nick Llewellyn joined the company in April and has been developing this work. The main focus of the work is to use the exciting medium of drama to explore certain skills with certain groups. The focus on each session could be an exploration of communication skills, team building, listening, memory, eye contact, trust, concentration exercises, sessions could be linked to a theme or topic or they could simply act as a drama taster. Host organisations are able to talk through the skills that they would specifically like to improve on or the ideas that they have with the Outreach Officer who is therefore then able to plan and deliver those sessions at the host's venue.
