Carmarthenshire Transitions ~ Have Your Say Day

We were asked by Carmarthenshire County Council to create a workshop day which would help them in finding out what young disabled people in the area want from their transitions service.

The transitions service is a new initiative in Carmarthenshire set up to help create a smooth transition for young people from children's services to adult services. To do this I worked with actors Simon Richards, Leonie Delgado and Lisa Harris all of whom have joined me on previous projects.

After a lot of research and a couple of rehearsals with my actors I wrote 2 scripts to help illustrate what can go wrong if a transitions process breaks down. We then rehearsed these scenes to be presented as forum theatre pieces on the day.

We also ran a drama workshop around the themes as part of the morning before the forum theatre presentation. In the afternoon we focused on group work to try to get some of the participant's ideas down on paper to be used by the council.

The day went extremely well with lots of interesting feedback from the young people. All feedback gathered was then typed up and forwarded to Carmarthenshire Council.
